My Own Epiphany

You are probably wondering why my blog name has changed.....well, last Sunday (yesterday to be precise), I had an epiphany, or realization, if you will. Let me start from the beginning.....

I started out by asking God for an answer. Something! I was tired of not knowing what he was trying to teach me.

Our Bible Study that is Thursday mornings has been on Jacob, Rachel, and Leah. Or to elaborate, on Jacob (I showed up a few weeks later and it was on Jacob, Rachel, and Leah). The study this last Thursday was on Leah having children....you know, the blog I posted a few days ago.... Leah had her wake up call on her 4th child and I had mine through books. During one of the days of our "homework" before Thursday had a question or two about "The Woman at the Well". You can find her in John 4:5-42. She has no name, just a woman getting water who meets Jesus, but she is now dear to my heart.

Well, after that first mention of "The Woman" in the study, I also came upon her reading a book that is called "Bad Girls of the Bible And What We Can Learn from Them" by Liz Curtis Higgs. It is coincidental to note that the Bible study we did was also by Liz. This book had another link to "The Woman".

The THIRD time I heard about "The Woman" was when I was surfing the web. I went to a link, which took me to another link, then another, then another.....you know the drill. I ended up at the site "The Way of the Master" and found this video clip. That was my other blog I posted a few days ago. THIS video had a comment about...yours truly, "The Woman at the Well". At this point I said "OK Lord I am listening!" Which brings me to Sunday......

The topic of the service was "The Wrestler" and it was about Jacob........Yes, I said Jacob. The same Jacob who loved Rachel more than Leah....the same JACOB who, in the story of "The Woman at the Well", had owned this well that Jesus met and talked to this woman. This topic at church was about how Jacob wrestled with God and had overcome. God wants us to wrestle Him....ask Him questions. If we remember, God touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled but Jacob stuck with it. Even through the pain, he stuck with God.

I have been wrestling with God about this whole pregnancy thing. And there has been pain. But I am sticking with God!

They ended with this verse: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; those who seek find; and tho those who knock, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8

Don't be afraid to ask God tough questions. He wont turn you away!

And what did "The Woman" do? Asked questions. "She wasn't shy about pressing for answers and didn't hesitate to ask for clarification" said Liz in her book.

Oh! And by the way....I chose the word Epiphany first then when I went to see how it was correctly spelled in the dictionary I found this:

1) A Christian feast observed on January 6th celebrating the visit of the Magi to Jesus.
2) A revelatory manifestation esp. of a divine being.

I didn't realize it had anything to do with Christianity. LOL

Oh! And I recommend getting an Apologetics Study Bible...they are great!

  1. Hey, I saw the blog name change prior to this post and wanted to tell you how much I liked it. Now, I like it even more. This is a good post. I think that through deep hurt and pain, we do come to know God on a more deeper level. He's always trying to teach us something. It's great when we can figure out what that is. This whole pregnancy thing sucks and I'm so sorry that you've had to go through it too, but there is a reason out there and God knows it... he's the only one we can talk to who has all the answers.
